I am happy to have Matthew Olney as my guest today. Thank you, Matthew, for joining me on my website.
Science Fiction and Fantasy Author Matthew Olney
Matthew, can you tell us about yourself and your background? What do you currently do outside of writing?
Hello! Well, I've always had a bit of a background in writing as when I was a kid, I'd create comic
books and sell them to my classmates for 2 pence a pop. As I got older, I fell in love with reading and always wanted to write
as a career. I have a degree in journalism and can write 100 words per minute in shorthand, which comes in handy when taking
notes. I struggled for many years to find work as a journalist. Still, a combination of the Great Recession devastating the
industry and the rise of the internet turning the profession into nothing more than who can create the best clickbait I opted
to take a different direction.
worked as a content manager for several companies and love it. I love the freedom to create content and to write every day
and get paid for it! Outside of writing, I am an avid lover of all things history, and I spend a lot of time playing video
games or enjoying a walk.
What books have you written, and what are their genres? What audience are they aimed
I have written a total
of 12 books so far and am working on 3 concurrently as I write this. I write science fiction, fantasy, and historical fiction.

prompted you to write what you did? Where do you get your writing inspiration? What message(s) do you want
readers to take away?
Having ideas has never really been much of an issue as I have an active imagination.
I want my readers to always feel like they have been on an adventure and met some interesting characters. The defining message,
however, is one of hope. In these turbulent days, the last thing I want is more darkness and despair. Even when things are
looking grim and seem hopeless, I want my readers to come away knowing that no matter what hope and good outweighs evil.
Do you write short stories, articles, or have a blog? Where can
we find them?
I tend to struggle with short stories, but I have written a few novellas. I write articles
and blogs about writing and being an Indy author which can be found on my website at - https://msolneyauthor.com/
What do you find the hardest about writing? The easiest?
The hardest can be staying motivated and, of course, marketing. As I write all day for my career, I sometimes struggle
to want to write my own stuff in my spare time. The easiest part? Coming up with ideas and new stories. I have written many
an article on the challenges posed by writing, but marketing is, and I think it is for most authors the trickiest part of
the whole process. Finding audiences who are willing to take a chance on an Indy author is tough due to there being a tonne
of competition out there.
What is next for you after [Your Book]?
I am currently writing several books at once! Mad I know. I have book 4 in the "Sundered Crown Saga" to
write, Book 3 in my "Empowered One's series", and book 2 in my historical fiction series "Unconquered".
